Shakuntala Ghosh

Shakuntala Ghosh is a practicing architect and Partner at Ghosh Bose & Associates (GBA) based in Kolkata. A gold medalist from the Department of Architecture, Jadavpur University, her technical expertise and practical experience are well reflected across her projects. She has been actively involved with the green building movement in India and has presented a number of papers at various national and international seminars. She is actively involved in promoting the ‘green message’ throughout Eastern India. She also organizes conference, workshops, and training sessions, and reaches out to school and college students as well.

Her role in the Indian green movement

Shakuntala is a member of the National Executive Committee of the Indian Green Building Council and Chairperson of the Indian Green Building Council, Kolkata Chapter. She has been empanelled as an ECBC expert architect by The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. She is also on the Technical Advisory Committee to the Government of India for green building rating systems.

Awards and recognitions

Shakuntala was honored with the prestigious National Award for Excellence in Architecture (Public Category) in 2007 for her role in developing WIPRO’s software development campus in Kolkata. She went on to garner a nomination for the prestigious international Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the same project in 2010.

Her pet project – Wipro Kolkata Development Center, Kolkata

The Wipro Kolkata Development Center is a green building designed by Ghosh, Bose and Associates. The building was awarded Indian Institute of Architects Award of Excellence 2007 and was nominated for the prestigious Aga Khan Award 2010. The building also received USGBC LEED Gold award in 2008 and IGBC LEED Gold award for phase 2.
